External Affairs

USGS External Affairs handles intergovernmental and external relations for the bureau at the headquarters level. We work to build and strengthen relationships with stakeholders across the nation.

What do we do?

The External Affairs team handles a wide range of topics. We assist internal staff with stakeholder issues and coordination and work with external stakeholders to communicate the values of the USGS and look for opportunities to collaborate. We are a one stop shop for anyone representing a federal agency, state-level government, or nongovernmental organization wanting to work with the USGS at the national level.

Stakeholder Communications

We support the USGS's mission to reach communities throughout the country and connect them with our science and services. We commonly work with nongovernmental organizations and state agencies and executives to communicate our science and share critical information with the people effected the most.

Public Engagements

We work hand-in-hand with the leadership of the USGS to represent our work in high level meetings around the country, and even internationally. Our team supports the USGS Director's Office to further our goal of sharing our science in meaningful ways.

Intergovernmental Coordination

We coordinate with other federal agencies to collaborate on science, media, and complex issues. We pride ourselves in working closely with our fellow bureaus within the Department of the Interior and beyond.
