AmphiTraits: A Database of Life History Traits of Amphibian Species in the USA

October 2, 2026

Knowledge of species traits is critical for conservation. Many large databases of species traits are available, but their use is often limited by data completeness, taxonomic coverage, and/or specificity of traits being assessed. We produced a database of traits for amphibian species native to the continental USA, reducing the total number of traits presented by other databases while increasing the total completeness and scope of data. The database includes 14 traits related to species’ growth, reproduction, and habitat use, compiled from existing published data repositories. This database presents a refined, more complete view of traits for amphibians and identifies current knowledge gaps in fundamental knowledge of species.
