Landslide susceptibility and shaded-relief data for the Naranjito Municipio, Puerto Rico

October 21, 2026

This data release provides basemap and landslide susceptibility raster data as described in Reid, M.E., Baum, R.L., Brien, D.L., Schulz, W.H., Cronkite-Ratcliff, C., Tello, M.J., and Perkins, J.P., 2026, Map depicting locations susceptible to landslide hazards triggered by prolonged intense rainfall, Naranjito Municipio, Puerto Rico: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3557, 1 sheet, scale 1:37,000, https://doi.org/10.3133/sim3557. Descriptive text from the Scientific Investigations Map is provided in the accompanying .txt files (one in English, one in Spanish); users are strongly encouraged to review the .txt file(s) to understand the creation, use, and limitations of the map. Files included with this release are a shaded relief digital elevation raster basemap (Naranjito_shaded_relief.tif), a landslide susceptibility map raster (Naranjito_Susceptibility.tif), an associated database table that provides the susceptibility classifications for the map raster (Naranjito_Susceptibility.tif.vat.dbf), and the aforementioned map text in English and Spanish (Naranjito_map_text_English.txt and Naranjito_map_text_Spanish.txt, respectively). For proper viewing of the susceptibility map raster (Naranjito_Susceptibility.tif) in a geographic information system (GIS), users should ensure that the associated Naranjito_Susceptibility.tif.vat.dbf file resides in the same computer folder as the .tif file; it is not necessary to add the .dbf file to the GIS. By following these instructions, the map raster will automatically appear classified by hazard. It is recommended that users of these raster data review the Scientific Investigations Map 3557 for details on data construction, use, and limitations. Figures 1 through 4, referenced in the .txt files, are also available here as Figure1.jpg, Figure2.jpg, Figure3.jpg, and Figure 4.jpg.

The study objectives, methods, hazard models, and use and limitations of the landslide susceptibility map are also presented in two companion Scientific Investigations Maps (Brien and others, 2026; Schulz and others, 2026). Relevant text is reproduced herein.
