SPARROW model source code, input, and output from the application of seasonally dynamic models of baseflow, streamflow, and total dissolved solids in baseflow and total streamflow within the Upper Colorado River Basin, water years 1986-2020
This model application data release contains the model source code, model control files, input data file, and output prediction files from the application of seasonally dynamic “Spatially Referenced Regressions on Watershed attributes” (SPARROW) models (Schmadel and others, 2024) within the Upper Colorado River Basin for four constituents: baseflow, streamflow, total dissolved solids in baseflow, and total dissolved solids in streamflow. The modeled period was from October 1985 through September 2020 (water years 1986-2020, where a water year is the 12-month period October 1, for any given year through September 30, of the following year) and consisted of 140 seasonal timesteps. The input data includes the sources for each constituent, landscape characteristics that control the transport of the constituents through watersheds, and model calibration data from stream gages and water quality monitoring stations. Model output includes predictions of total and incremental baseflow, streamflow, and loads for 10,789 reaches in the basin along with the contribution from each modeled source. Further details on model development and results are described in the associated journal article ( Miller and others, 2026).
