Matt, Miki, Seth, and Raymond are all out on the south side of Halema'uma'u this morning installing a new timelapse camera and also adding sound to the V3 camera. So you may have seen the world turn upside down and heard them working away.

A cluster of about 28 earthquakes 5-10 km deep occurred beneath the north side of Mauna Kea between 2 pm and 10 pm on March 26. The largest were two magnitude 3 earthquakes. These events are not related to magma movement.

HVO’s monitoring network is gradually recovering from power and storm related outages. Yesterday the Uēkahuna (UWD) tiltmeter was revived but no data was recovered so an offset was applied using trends from other summit tiltmeters.

Matt, Miki, Kevan, and Steven successfully replaced the V1 camera which had been repeatedly bonked in the head by tephra during episode 43. The new V1 camera and microphone are up and operating on USGS YouTube livestream channel again.

Weather has finally cleared after nearly two weeks of storms and a crew is headed out to replace the V1 streaming camera and its solar power generation system.

South fountain dropping and began jetting around 6:18 and disappeared at 6:21 along with north vent. Ash plume lingering around 10,000 feet and still drifting to north. Only very sparse ash in Hilo at 6 pm HST and expected to stop.

Fountains remain at or just below 600 feet high. Due to drop in tephra fall USGS has lowered the alert level from RED/WARNING to ORANGE/WATCH. Summit deflation continues and is now over 32 microradians.

Fountain heights for both north and south vents are at or just under 600 feet. Only sparse small pumices (less than 1 inch) are falling in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes Nat Park and surrounding communities. Fine ash and Peleʻs hair continue to fall.

The south fountain is about 700 feet (220 meters) high with the north around 600 feet (180 meters) high. Tephra fall is greatly reduced but still falling in communities near the park with finer ash reported as far away as Hilo.

South fountain has decreased to around 1000 feet (300 meters) high and north fountain is 700 feet (200 meters) high. Tephra fall to the north and east has greatly reduced in the past hour. Fine ash and hair falling as far as Hilo and HPP.

Both the south and north vents are currently about 1300 feet (400 meters) high. Small tephra up to 1-2 inches are falling in Volcano Village. Light fall of tephra is also reported from Royal Hawaiian Estates at the 24 mile marker on Hwy 11

Both north and south vents are above 1000 feet high and producing voluminous tephra spreading to the north. Golf course housing and highway 11 are being hit with tephra up to 5 inches. Plume is over 25,000 feet asl and spreading north.
