Kilauea Message 2025-11-09 16:18:28 HST
Episode 36 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended at 4:16 pm HST today, November 9. The eruption lasted just over 5 hours, produced fountains over 1000 feet high and eruption 10-11 cubic yards of lava that covered over half of the crater.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-09 15:51:17 HST
The north vent quit fountaining at 3:35 p.m. South vent remained up to 1000 feet high but began dropping at 3:48 p.m. HST. Currently the south fountain is about 500 feet high.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-09 11:56:50 HST
Episode 36 started at about 11:15 a.m. HST when fountains from both vents and tremor began to increase rapidly. Strong deflation at the summit preceded the fountaining by 15 minutes. Fountains from both vents are now about 1000 feet high.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-09 11:15:12 HST
Summit began sharp deflation along with tremor increase and both vents are showing rapidly growing fountains. Episode 36 appears to be starting.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-04 04:38:34 HST
Lava overflowed the south vent 4 times this morning starting at around 1:40 am HST and continuing to now. Flows are 100-200 feet long. The north vent continued to fill and drain periodically and had 2 small overflows this morning.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-03 01:58:48 HST
There have been 2 more events where small lava flows barely cleared the lip of the vent prior to drainback. The past 2 episodes have been preceded by 1-2 days of small overflows as degassed magma was pushed from the vent. More are expected.
Kilauea Message 2025-11-03 01:04:38 HST
The north vent overflowed from 12:46 to 12:53 am HST this morning. Both vents had been glowing strongly all night and magma could be seen slowly rising in the north vent all night. More overflows may occur prior to the start of episode 36.
Kilauea Message 2025-10-31 23:05:49 HST
Boo! Moderate tremor spikes and glow with hydrogen flames (after dark) from the north vent began at 5:30 pm HST. This sequence ended with a small overflow and vigorous drainback 9:25 to 9:28 pm. Tremor and glow became constant since then.
Kilauea Message 2025-10-18 04:07:16 HST
Episode 35 ended at 3:32 am HST when the north vent died, the south vent stopped erupting 3 minutes earlier. The episode 35 fountains lasted for 7.5 hours and produced about 13 million cubic yards (10 million cubic meters) of lava.
Kilauea Message 2025-10-17 22:11:14 HST
Record high fountains for this eruption, nearly 1500 feet high. https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hans-public/notice/DOI-USGS-HVO-2025-10-18T07:33:48+00:00
Kilauea Message 2025-10-17 21:31:41 HST
South vent has topped 1300 feet (400 meters) and north vent is about 1100 feet (330 meters), a record for two fountains during this eruption!
Kilauea Message 2025-10-17 21:19:36 HST
Both the north and the south vent are over 1000 feet (300 meters) with the south fountain about 1150 feet (350 meters) high.
