Landsat Level-1 Collection 1 Processing Status
Landsat 4-8
Landsat 4-5 Thematic Mapper (TM) and Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) Collection 1 Level-1 processing is complete, with all scenes available for download from EarthExplorer.
Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) Collection 1 Level-1 data products covering the United States, for all years (2013-present) are also available from EarthExplorer, while processing for the rest of the world continues. Visit the USGS Landsat Missions homepage to view the current Landsat Collection 1 processing status. The Landsat Collections webpage provides more detailed information on the Landsat Collection 1 effort, including the changes to data products, new files, and product identifiers.
Landsat 1-5 Multispectral Scanner MSS
Landsat 1-5 Multispectral Scanner (MSS) data will be processed into the Collection 1 Level-1 inventory format after data quality analysis and processing level investigations have been completed, which is anticipated to occur by December 2017.
Landsat Collection 1 Higher-Level Science Data Products Status
As of March 30, 2017, users are able to request processing of Landsat Higher-Level Science Data Products (i.e., Surface Reflectance) for Landsat 4-8 Collection 1 scenes from EarthExplorer.
Users are encouraged to review the March 17, 2017 News Archive and consult the Product Guides for further information about the differences between Pre-Collection and Collection 1 Higher-Level Science Data Products before implementing them in any scientific analysis.
LandsatLook Viewer Unveils New Look
On February 21, 2017, a new version of the LandsatLook Viewer was released. The major redesign includes many new features, enhanced performance, and improved functional capabilities.
Related, the Sentinel2Look Viewer is also now available. This viewer highlights one of the newest datasets available through a USGS partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA). See this Headline for more information.

Pecora 20 Conference
November 14-16, 2017: Sioux Falls, SD
The Pecora 20 conference theme is “Observing a Changing Earth: Science for Decisions…Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection”, and will offer a program on applications of satellite and other Earth observation instruments to monitor, assess, and perform projections of future land and water resources, as well as big data and other analytical technologies to improve land decision making utilizing satellite data.
In association with the Pecora conference, the William T. Pecora Award is presented annually to individuals or groups that have made outstanding contributions toward understanding the Earth by means of remote sensing. The Department of the Interior (DOI) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) jointly sponsor the award. Nominations for the award are due June 1, 2017.
Established by the USGS and NASA in the 1970's, the Pecora meetings serve as a forum to foster the exchange of scientific information and results derived from applications of Earth observing data to a broad range of land-based resources, and also discuss ideas, policies, and strategies concerning land remote sensing.
