From 8:00 a.m. CDT Tuesday, June 27th to 4:00 p.m. CDT Wednesday June 28th, access to some Landsat Collection 2 products will be unavailable while required maintenance updates are made to the Amazon Web Service commercial cloud infrastructure at the USGS EROS Center.

The USGS will keep as many Landsat products accessible as possible during this time. The table below displays the Landsat data access portals and the various Landsat products. Please review this table carefully to determine if the product(s) you require will be available (products marked 'YES' will remain available during the downtime; 'NO' indicates the product will not be available.)  Additional information specific to the data access portals is provided under the table.

Upcoming Interruption to Landsat Commercial Cloud Access and Select Product Downloads
  1. Commercial Cloud Requester Pay users:
    • If you access Landsat data in the commercial cloud using your charged Amazon Web Service Requester Pays bucket:
      • Access to data already in USGS buckets is unaffected. New acquisitions will be unavailable in the cloud until the updates are completed late on Wednesday June 28th.
      • SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC) metadata will be unavailable for searching.
  2. Machine to Machine (M2M) Application Programming Interface (API) users: Landsat 9, Landsat 8, and Landsat 7 data bundles from April 2023 to present will remain available, including new acquisitions during the timeframe of this work; queries and metadata retrieval across the complete Landsat archive will be possible, but downloads from the cloud will fail.
  3. EarthExplorer (EE) users:
    • Only Landsat supporting datasets (i.e., Digital Elevation Model, Atmospheric Auxiliary) will be available during the timeframe of this work.
  4. EROS Science Processing Architecture On-Demand Interface (ESPA) will accept and successfully process orders for scenes acquired within the past 90 days. Orders containing older scenes will return error messages, due to the interrupted path to obtain source data for higher level processing.

Additional notices will be posted when this work has been completed.

Please contact USGS EROS Customer Services with any questions about this interruption.
