Detailed Description
(A) An examples of Common Carp blood collection via the method of lateral venipuncture of the caudal vein in the field. (B) A lab technician (Lydia Duhon, USGS WARC) shows a successful blood draw in the laboratory. (C and D) Blood is stored in sterile screwcap tubes and either mailed or held overnight prior to making hematological smears. (E) Stained Grass Carp blood smears on a microscope slide can be imaged using a field microscope attached to a cell phone adaptor.
