Traveling Hydrographer

Spring in Maine introduces significant challenges for hydrographers when it comes to accessing remote stations. In this photo, hydrologic technician Anthony Underwood is prepared to visit the USGS gaging station on Libby Brook near Northfield, Maine. The trip to this station first required using a four wheeler to travel across the mud and ice covered blueberry fields. Then, a short walk through the snow-covered forest to the station. As you can see, Anthony was ready for action on the ride to the station, already wearing waders and life jacket.
