Based on the age of the application and the state of the program code, it had been determined by the State that a complete overhaul or rewrite of the application code will be required. The financial assistance for this project will help fund the development of project design documents, hardware and software environments to house the applications, initial system configurations, and integration between systems. The project will use a combination of custom code development and the purchase of a Commercial Off the Shelf product to allow for on-line access and data reporting. |
Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) | Consolidating the Display and Transferability of Water Use Measurement Data at IDWR | This project is for consolidating the display and transferability of water use measurement data locations at IDWR by creating a one-stop web mapping application with tools to relate water measurement data to points of diversion. The proposed work will improve the transfer of Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) water use data for USGS and other data users by 1) displaying water measurement data from three separate systems at IDWR that record measurement data into one mapping application and 2) georeferencing surface water measurements as events on the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) using linear referencing and make those events available through the NHD Linked Data Registry. Additionally, the project will improve water use data for irrigation by performing checks on the geographical location. |
Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality | Real-time Flow Meter Readings to Improve Water Use Estimates for the Mississippi Delta | This project will install and maintain real-time flow meters and telemetry to improve water-use estimates for the Mississippi Delta. For more than thirty years, water levels in the Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer (MRVA) have declined significantly. The MRVA supplies over 90% of the water used for irrigation, aquaculture, and wildlife habitat enhancement in the Delta (the northwest area of Mississippi). The proposed work would enhance the accuracy and reliability of the USGS water use model used by the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP) Project and increase the understanding of water availability. The proposed project will help the MDEQ hire a contractor to provide meters and telemetry for continuous meter readings for two years at strategically placed aquaculture, wildlife habitat, and/or rice wells. This real-time data will be sent directly to the USGS. |
Nevada Division of Water Resources | Enhancements to the Water Use Estimation, Data Reporting and Analysis, and Data Availability Processes for the Nevada Division of Water Resources | This project will make enhancements to water use estimation, data reporting and analysis, and data availability processes for the Nevada Division of Water Resources. The proposed work includes 1) conducting field efforts to improve the quality of data that is collected from the annual crop and pumpage inventory work, 2) add enhancements to the Meters database to make the reports more user-friendly and make queries that will allow the user to obtain water-use data easier, and 3) construct an interactive web map that will allow users to view groundwater pumpage by basin and County. This work with improve the data quality and accessibility to water-use data for USGS and other data users. |
New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection | Agricultural Water Use Reporting Assessments to Support New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s New Jersey Water Tracking Data Model (NJWaTr) Water Use Database | The project will improve the quality assurance of irrigation crop water-use data by comparing metered data with traditional estimates. The Agricultural community in New Jersey (NJ) is not required to meter withdrawals and consequently reported data are most often based on a calculation using pump capacity and hours pumping occurred. The proposed work would install up to 10 flow meters on farms that currently do not meter their withdrawals. The data will be analyzed, and a report will be produced that compares the collected new metered data to traditional estimates based on pump capacity and pumping hours. |
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection | Water Use Data Exchange across Multiple Agencies (Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and Delaware River Basin Commission) in Pennsylvania | The project will establish a data sharing protocol to readily share water use data between the three agencies in Pennsylvania that routinely collect water use reports from users and the regulated community (Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and Delaware River Basin Commission). The key objectives of the proposed work are to 1) identify data elements available in each application, 2) identify data elements that are to be shared among the three agencies, 3) develop web services to transfer shareable data elements, 4) perform user acceptance testing of the web services, and 5) create a centralized location for sharing water-use data to government agencies. |

The proposed work includes 1) locating a high percentage of the remaining approximate 30,000 wells in 3 counties (Addison, Orleans and Rutland); 2) compile reported wastewater data; 3) improve data for aquaculture (fish hatcheries) and irrigation (golf courses); 4) standardize the withdrawal database and assign HUC 8 codes for 20-25 hydroelectric power facilities and 5) review and revise data tables from the Vermont Water Use (VWU) database. |
