A New Resource for Educators and Students
New virtual outreach resource from the Great Lakes Fishery Commission
A new resource for students and educators in the Great Lakes region was released on March 16, 2021 by the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC). The commission’s communications team created a virtual outreach video focusing on the invasive sea lamprey, complete with associated worksheets for students, and a personalized Q&A session afterwards, if requested. The video covers the topics of sea lamprey anatomy, history and invasion of the Great Lakes, life cycle, and control with plenty of cool (and creepy!) sea lamprey footage. The video also discusses the critical partnership, between the GLFC and the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hammond Bay Biological Station (GLSC, Millersburg, Michigan), that has contributed to the success of the sea lamprey control program.
