The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Magnetotelluric data from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Upper Michigan, 2015-2019 Magnetotelluric data from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Upper Michigan, 2015-2019

This dataset consists of 176 wideband magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected from 2015-2019 across parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) acquired these data as part of regional investigations into the geologic and tectonic framework of the area and to support mineral resource investigations. These data have been used to...

Magnetotelluric data from Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky, 2016-2019 Magnetotelluric data from Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky, 2016-2019

This dataset consists of 127 wideband and 21 long-period magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected from 2016-2019 across parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky. The U.S. Geological Survey acquired these data as part of regional investigations into the geologic and tectonic framework of the area and to support mineral resource and geologic hazard investigations...

Water and sediment data used to evaluate selenium hazards in the Salton Sea ecosystem Water and sediment data used to evaluate selenium hazards in the Salton Sea ecosystem

Due to declining water levels and increasing salinity in the Salton Sea which may increase the hazards to wildlife, the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are re-evaluating selenium concentrations in the region. As part of this work, selenium concentrations in water and sediment samples and selected other inorganic constituents were compiled from published reports...

Refined principal aquifer boundaries for New Mexico, United States Refined principal aquifer boundaries for New Mexico, United States

This polygon vector dataset, delineating principal aquifers in New Mexico, is a clipped and refined version of the original principal aquifers of the United States shapefile (U.S. Geological Survey, 2019).

Survival, reproduction, and weight of Neocloeon triangulifer after short and long-term exposures to nickel and zinc Survival, reproduction, and weight of Neocloeon triangulifer after short and long-term exposures to nickel and zinc

Dataset consists of 4-day, 14-day, and full life responses of laboratory cultured mayflies (Neocloeon triangulifer) to nickel and zinc exposure. Responses were measured as mortality, body weight, development time, and reproduction. Water quality and analytical chemistry results associated with toxicity data are included. Additional data included are results of experiments assessing...

Properties of ice cores from Hobart Lake, North Dakota, USA, 2021 Properties of ice cores from Hobart Lake, North Dakota, USA, 2021

This data release presents data that were collected as part of a larger effort (Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network [GLEON] IceBlitz) to enhance understanding of the spatial and temporal variation in global lake ice properties. During January and February of 2021 ice cores were extracted from Hobart Lake, North Dakota, USA and characterized following standard procedures...

Carbon dioxide flux, vegetation, and soils data from artificial ponds in North Dakota, USA, 2021 Carbon dioxide flux, vegetation, and soils data from artificial ponds in North Dakota, USA, 2021

This data release presents data that were collected as part of a larger effort to assess the carbon balance of recently exposed (i.e., no vegetation cover) wetland sediments. This work was part of an international collaborative effort associated with the Dryflux II project. During June and July 2021, data were collected from three artificial ponds located near Jamestown, North Dakota, to...

Coking coal of the United States: Modern and historical locations of coking coal mining locations and chemical, rheological, petrographic, and other data from modern samples Coking coal of the United States: Modern and historical locations of coking coal mining locations and chemical, rheological, petrographic, and other data from modern samples

For the open-file report we collected new coking coal samples from Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Arkansas and analyzed them for proximate and ultimate analyses; calorific value; sulfur forms; major-, minor-, and trace-element abundances; free swelling indices; Gieseler plasticity; ASTM dilatation; coal petrography, and several other tests [air-dry loss (ADL), residual moisture (RM)...

Combined wildland fire datasets for the United States and certain territories, 1800s-Present Combined wildland fire datasets for the United States and certain territories, 1800s-Present

First, we would like to thank the wildland fire advisory group. Their wisdom and guidance helped us build the dataset as it currently exists. This dataset is comprised of two different zip files. Zip File 1: The data within this zip file are composed of two wildland fire datasets. (1) A merged dataset consisting of 40 different wildfire and prescribed fire layers. The original 40 layers...

Basin characteristic rasters used in the update of Hawaiʻi StreamStats, 2022 Basin characteristic rasters used in the update of Hawaiʻi StreamStats, 2022

In cooperation with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has computed a series of basin characteristic rasters for Hawaii to be implemented into the USGS StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ss/). The basin characteristics, along with geospatial datasets for watershed delineation published as a separate USGS data release...

Geospatial datasets for watershed delineation used in the update of Hawaiʻi StreamStats, 2022 Geospatial datasets for watershed delineation used in the update of Hawaiʻi StreamStats, 2022

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, has compiled and processed a series of geospatial datasets for Hawaii to be implemented into the USGS StreamStats application (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ss/). These geospatial datasets, along with basin characteristic datasets published as a separate USGS data release (https://doi...
