Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Biofouling and mussel growth from mussels deployed in Great Lakes embayments (2013-2016) Biofouling and mussel growth from mussels deployed in Great Lakes embayments (2013-2016)
Many taxa of North American unionid mussels are imperiled due to biofouling by invasive dreissenid mussels. Here, we report on biofouling rates of unionid mussels suspended in cages during the growing season in nearshore embayments in Lake Erie (2013-2016), Lake Michigan (Green Bay 2016, Grand Traverse Bay 2015) and Lake Huron (Saginaw Bay 2015). Mussels were deployed in early summer...
Water chemistry and biological data of Rainbow Trout following aquatic exposure to weathered wildland fire retardants after application to substrate Water chemistry and biological data of Rainbow Trout following aquatic exposure to weathered wildland fire retardants after application to substrate
We investigated whether the length of time fire chemical weathers on a terrestrial substrate before mixing into aquatic environments alters the chemical’s toxicity when encountered by juvenile rainbow trout. We also looked at whether the type of substrate where the chemical is applied affects its toxicity to juvenile rainbow trout after mixing into water. Two fire chemicals (Phos Chek...
Permethrin concentrations on sawgrass collected from National Key Deer Refuge in 2015 Permethrin concentrations on sawgrass collected from National Key Deer Refuge in 2015
Sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense) samples were collected from marshes on five different keys (Big Pine, Torch, Ramrod, Cudjoe, and Sugarloaf Keys) within National Key Deer Refuge in January and June of 2015 and analyzed for contamination by the mosquito control insecticide permethrin. Permethrin was detected on 17 of 57 samples collected in January while it was detected on 40 of 56 samples...
Data and model archive used to model and map lithium concentrations in groundwater sources of drinking water in the conterminous United States Data and model archive used to model and map lithium concentrations in groundwater sources of drinking water in the conterminous United States
This data release contains data used to develop models and maps that estimate the occurrence of lithium in groundwater used as drinking water throughout the conterminous United States. An extreme gradient boosting model was developed to estimate the most probable lithium concentration category (≤4, >4 to ≤10, >10 to ≤30, or >30 µg/L). The model uses lithium concentration data from wells...
U.S. Geological Survey National Produced Waters Geochemical Database (ver. 3.0, December 2023) U.S. Geological Survey National Produced Waters Geochemical Database (ver. 3.0, December 2023)
During hydrocarbon production, water is typically co-produced from the geologic formations producing oil and gas. Understanding the composition of these produced waters is important to help investigate the regional hydrogeology, the source of the water, the efficacy of water treatment and disposal plans, potential economic benefits of mineral commodities in the fluids, and the safety of...
Bathymetry of Buckhorn Lake, Kentucky, May 2023 Bathymetry of Buckhorn Lake, Kentucky, May 2023
These data are bathymetry (lake bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the May 30–June 1, 2023, bathymetric survey of Buckhorn Lake, Kentucky, from the dam to CR-1475 (19.5 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using a RESON 210 kHz NaviSound single-beam echosounder (SBES) with a Hemisphere A222 integrated global navigation...
