The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Simulated Nutrient and Sediment Concentrations from Major Rivers in Illinois Based on Continuous Monitoring from October 1, 2015, through September 30, 2023 Simulated Nutrient and Sediment Concentrations from Major Rivers in Illinois Based on Continuous Monitoring from October 1, 2015, through September 30, 2023

During water years 2016–2023 (a water year is the period from October 1 to September 30 and is designated by the year in which it ends), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA), operated continuous monitoring stations on eight of the major rivers in Illinois to better quantify nutrient and sediment loadings from...

Geochemical data for the Cenomanian-Turonian Greenhorn Formation recorded in the USGS#1 Portland Core of central Colorado Geochemical data for the Cenomanian-Turonian Greenhorn Formation recorded in the USGS#1 Portland Core of central Colorado

Geochemical and mineralogical characterization data was collected for samples of the Greenhorn Formation taken from the USGS Portland 1 core, which is stored in the USGS Core Research Center (library number E099 https://my.usgs.gov/crcwc/core/report/11834). The data was integrated with sedimentological descriptions in a manuscript (Flaum and others, 2025) that includes revised...

Industrial Waste Ditch surface sediment chemical and physical properties, Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho Industrial Waste Ditch surface sediment chemical and physical properties, Idaho National Laboratory, Idaho

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy and Naval Reactors Facility (NRF), collected sediment samples along the Industrial Waste Ditch (IWD) located on the northern boundary of the NRF. Sediment samples were collected at various intervals downstream from the outfall at different positions within the ditch as well as dredge pile sediments...

Water temperature, air temperature, and sensor depth data from select locations in the Big Soos Creek basin, WA from April 2023 to June 2024 Water temperature, air temperature, and sensor depth data from select locations in the Big Soos Creek basin, WA from April 2023 to June 2024

These data were collected as part of a larger project to support Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) modeling in the Big Soos Creek basin. Water temperature, air temperature and sensor depth were collected from four sites in the Big Soos Creek basin; LITTLE SOOS CREEK BELOW LAKE YOUNGS NEAR KENT, WA (USGS site ID 12109400), JENKINS CREEK AT 188TH AVE SE NEAR KENT, WA (USGS site ID 12110300)...

Database for the geologic map of the Washington West 30' x 60' quadrangle, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Database for the geologic map of the Washington West 30' x 60' quadrangle, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

The database for the Washington West 30- by 60-minute quadrangle covers an area of approximately 4,884 square kilometers (1,343 square miles) in and west of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The eastern part of the area is highly urbanized, and more rural areas to the west are rapidly being developed. The area lies entirely within the Chesapeake Bay drainage basin and mostly...

Lake Erie Submersed Aquatic Vegetation, Sampled 2016-2019 Lake Erie Submersed Aquatic Vegetation, Sampled 2016-2019

Observations and subtle shifts of aquatic vegetation communities in Lake Erie have USGS researchers concerned about the potential for grass carp and other threats to alter these vegetation communities. Assessing submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) may contribute to inform the long-term impacts of grass carp, common carp, eutrophication, wind fetch and sedimentation on SAV communities...
