Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Seagrass map, Cat Island, Mississippi, 2023 Seagrass map, Cat Island, Mississippi, 2023
This product depicts the spatial coverage of seagrass beds from 0.5-m color-infrared orthoimagery for Cat Island, Mississippi from early fall of 2023. Specifically, the map includes presence and absence of seagrass beds within a potential seagrass extent that was based on topobathymetric data. A minimum mapping unit of 4 square meters was used for this mapping effort. We did not have...
A Catalog of Low-Frequency Earthquakes at the Southern Edge of Cascadia Subduction A Catalog of Low-Frequency Earthquakes at the Southern Edge of Cascadia Subduction
A Catalog of Low-Frequency Earthquakes at the Southern Edge of Cascadia Subduction David R. Shelly1 1 U.S. Geological Survey, Geological Hazards Science Center, Golden, CO 80401 This catalog contains 61,441 detections from 27 low-frequency earthquake (LFE) families located in an isolated zone offset to the west from the southern edge of the main band of Cascadia tremor. The included...
Russian River Integrated Hydrologic Model: an integrated hydrology and river operations model used to evaluate water use and climate change scenarios in the Russian River watershed Russian River Integrated Hydrologic Model: an integrated hydrology and river operations model used to evaluate water use and climate change scenarios in the Russian River watershed
The Russian River watershed, situated in coastal, northern California, experiences hydrologic extremes, including periodic droughts and flooding. Water managers are working to maintain sustainable water supplies and environmental flows, while mitigating flood risks. This data release documents an integrated hydrology and river operations model for the Russian River watershed. This model...
Rare Earth Element (REE), Critical Mineral, and Geochemical Characterization of Manganese Oxide Ore Deposits in the Virginia Piedmont and Valley & Ridge Rare Earth Element (REE), Critical Mineral, and Geochemical Characterization of Manganese Oxide Ore Deposits in the Virginia Piedmont and Valley & Ridge
Manganese is a designated critical mineral, being industrially utilized for producing steel and batteries, including in the production of electric vehicles (Rozelle and others, 2021). The eastern United States hosts hundreds of manganese oxide mines that served steel production until their abandonment in the mid-twentieth century (Pegau, 1958). Many relict mines still feature accessible...
Simulations of tephra fall from Popocatépetl and Nevado de Toluca Volcanoes Simulations of tephra fall from Popocatépetl and Nevado de Toluca Volcanoes
This data release contains results of 6,000 simulations of volcanic ashfall from eruptions at Popocatépetl and Nevado de Teluca volcanoes in Mexico. From each model simulation, the deposit thickness was recorded at the location of a sediment core from Lake Chalco on the southeast edge of Mexico City (19.25718N, 98.97549W). These results are reported in the accompanying paper: Hodgetts, A...
Russian River Integrated Hydrologic Model (RRIHM): Agricultural Water Use Package (AG) Russian River Integrated Hydrologic Model (RRIHM): Agricultural Water Use Package (AG)
The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal...
