Trends of pesticides and nitrate in ground water of the Central Columbia Plateau, Washington, 1993-2003 Trends of pesticides and nitrate in ground water of the Central Columbia Plateau, Washington, 1993-2003

Pesticide and nitrate data for ground water sampled in the Central Columbia Plateau, Washington, between 1993 and 2003 by the U.S. Geological Survey National Water-Quality Assessment Program were evaluated for trends in concentration. A total of 72 wells were sampled in 1993-1995 and again in 2002-2003 in three well networks that targeted row crop and orchard land use settings as well as...

Tsunami probability in the Caribbean Region Tsunami probability in the Caribbean Region

We calculated tsunami runup probability (in excess of 0.5 m) at coastal sites throughout the Caribbean region. We applied a Poissonian probability model because of the variety of uncorrelated tsunami sources in the region. Coastlines were discretized into 20 km by 20 km cells, and the mean tsunami runup rate was determined for each cell. The remarkable ???500-year empirical record...

Understanding the relationship between audiomagnetotelluric data and models, and borehole data in a hydrological environment Understanding the relationship between audiomagnetotelluric data and models, and borehole data in a hydrological environment

Audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) data and resulting models are analyzed with respect to geophysical and geological borehole logs in order to clarify the relationship between the two methodologies of investigation of a hydrological environment. Several profiles of AMT data collected in basins in southwestern United States are being used for groundwater exploration and hydrogeological framework...

United states national land cover data base development 1992-2001 and beyond United states national land cover data base development 1992-2001 and beyond

An accurate, up-to-date and spatially-explicate national land cover database is required for monitoring the status and trends of the nation's terrestrial ecosystem, and for managing and conserving land resources at the national scale. With all the challenges and resources required to develop such a database, an innovative and scientifically sound planning must be in place and a...

Updated radiometric calibration for the Landsat-5 thematic mapper reflective bands Updated radiometric calibration for the Landsat-5 thematic mapper reflective bands

The Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper (TM) has been the workhorse of the Landsat system. Launched in 1984, it continues collecting data through the time frame of this paper. Thus, it provides an invaluable link to the past history of the land features of the Earth's surface, and it becomes imperative to provide an accurate radiometric calibration of the reflective bands to the user community...
