Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center Consortium - Hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks (2017-2021)
The Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC) has a strong track record of working collaboratively with government entities to co-produce actionable science in areas including: high resolution dynamical and statistical downscaling, process and mechanistic-based ecosystem modeling, and glacier dynamics. The AK CASC is therefore uniquely positioned to facilitate and conduct science that informs specific management decisions within the state. The AK CASC is hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) with consortium partners University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Southeast. To learn more about Host Agreement Projects and University of Alaska - Fairbanks projects, visit: https://akcasc.org/about-us/projects-overview/
During the period of 2017-2021, the AK CASC consortium will strived to i) further refine and formalize a co-production model ii) work with partners to identify research priorities and iii) build the necessary capacity and expertise to develop actionable science in a collaborative environment that informs climate-sensitive decisions. In addition, the consortium will solicit partners for and facilitate the co-production process for research activities, build capacity by providing co-production training and experience for scientists (including early career fellows) and managers and strategically develop products to communicate science to specific users and audiences. These goals will provide a framework as the consortium seeks to understand climate change and its impacts on physical ecological, cultural and health systems in the Arctic and subarctic through high-resolution modelling, vulnerability assessments and monitoring.
Each CASC is a formal collaboration between the USGS, a regional host university, and a multi-institution partner consortium. Through this agreement, the host and consortium institutions undertake a number of activities, including conducting research science projects, supporting fellows and engaging with resource management partners.
