Declining Arctic Ocean sea ice has repercussions for national security, shipping, energy exploration, wildlife habitat, and resources for indigenous people. Sea ice also strongly affects global climate and major weather patterns. The Ecosystems Land Change Science Program researches long-term patterns and drivers of sea ice to understand changes in terrestrial and marine Arctic ecosystems.
