Alaska resource data file: McGrath quadrangle Alaska resource data file: McGrath quadrangle

The unnamed occurrence was investigated by the reporter in 1978 during a 1:63,360 scale geologic mapping effort for the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys in the McGrath quadrangle (Bundtzen and Laird, 1983). Two grab samples from the mineralized zone contained up to 222 ppm copper, 0.6 grams/tonne silver, and 100 ppm lead.

Geologic datasets for weights-of-evidence analysis in northeast Washington: 3. Minerals-related permits on national forests, 1967-1998 Geologic datasets for weights-of-evidence analysis in northeast Washington: 3. Minerals-related permits on national forests, 1967-1998

Permits to explore for and (or) develop mineral resources on forest land can be used to indicate locations and types of mineral-related activities on national forests. Permits for these activities require filing at the Forest Service a Notice of Intention (Notice) to conduct mineral exploration activities and (or) a Plan of Operation (Plan). A Plan of Operation is required is significant

Field trip guide to selected studies of the Southwest Mineral and Environmental Investigations Project in southeastern Arizona Field trip guide to selected studies of the Southwest Mineral and Environmental Investigations Project in southeastern Arizona

The Southwest Mineral and Environmental Investigations Project is designed to address issues raised by rapid urban development in the basins of the southwestern U.S. These issues require objective geoscientific data that can be used by land managers and stakeholders to develop informed land and water use strategies. The project integrates new and existing geologic, geophysical, and...

The Silent Canyon caldera complex — A three-dimensional model based on drill-hole stratigraphy and gravity inversion The Silent Canyon caldera complex — A three-dimensional model based on drill-hole stratigraphy and gravity inversion

The structural framework of Pahute Mesa, Nevada, is dominated by the Silent Canyon caldera complex, a buried, multiple collapse caldera complex. Using the boundary surface between low density Tertiary volcanogenic rocks and denser granitic and weakly metamorphosed sedimentary rocks (basement) as the outer fault surfaces for the modeled collapse caldera complex, it is postulated that the...

Digital mining claim density map for federal lands in Arizona: 1996 Digital mining claim density map for federal lands in Arizona: 1996

This report describes a digital map generated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to provide digital spatial mining claim density information for federal lands in Arizona as of March 1997. Mining claim data is earth science information deemed to be relevant to the assessment of historic, current, and future ecological, economic, and social systems. There is no paper map included in this...

Geologic framework for the Puget Sound aquifer system, Washington and British Columbia Geologic framework for the Puget Sound aquifer system, Washington and British Columbia

The Puget-Willamette study area is composed of two distinct subareas, the Puget Sound Lowland and the Willamette Lowland. The study area for this report is the Puget Sound Lowland, which is located in western Washington and in a small part of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. The lowland encompasses an area of about 17,610 square miles and contains about 2,615 square miles of...

Spectroscopy of rocks and minerals and principles of spectroscopy Spectroscopy of rocks and minerals and principles of spectroscopy

Spectroscopy is the study of light as a function of wavelength that has been emitted, reflected or scattered from a solid, liquid, or gas. In this chapter I will primarily discuss the spectroscopy of minerals, but the principles apply to any material. No single chapter can cover this topic adequately, and one could argue, not even a single book. Thus, in some ways, this chapter may fall...

Structure and metamorphism of the Franciscan Complex, Mt. Hamilton area, Northern California Structure and metamorphism of the Franciscan Complex, Mt. Hamilton area, Northern California

Truncation of metamorphic isograds and fold axes within coherent terranes of Franciscan metagraywacke by intervening zones of melange indicate that the melange is tectonic and formed after the subduction-related metamorphism and folding. These relations are expressed in two terranes of blueschist-facies rocks of the Franciscan Complex in the Mt. Hamilton area, northern California-the...

Hydrogeology of the unsaturated zone, North Ramp area of the Exploratory Studies Facility, Yucca Mountain, Nevada Hydrogeology of the unsaturated zone, North Ramp area of the Exploratory Studies Facility, Yucca Mountain, Nevada

Yucca Mountain, in southern Nevada, is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Energy as a potential site for a repository for high-level radioactive waste. This report documents the results of surface-based geologic, pneumatic, hydrologic, and geochemical studies conducted during 1992 to 1996 by the U.S. Geological Survey in the vicinity of the North Ramp of the Exploratory Studies...
