The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is currently soliciting project proposals for a Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 grant, the National Land Remote Sensing Education, Outreach and Research grant activity, and is authorized to award up to $1,465,000 for the first year.

Interested researchers can apply online at GRANTS.GOV under funding Opportunity Number G23AS00381. Note that the application period is currently open and closes July 19, 2023.  All proposals submitted to the FY23 open application period are limited to 30 pages maximum.  This Notice of Funding Opportunity can be found at https://www.grants.gov/search-grants.html?cfda=15.815

The National Land Imaging (NLI) Program of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Core Science Systems (CSS) Mission Area, is soliciting applications to develop and/or maintain a U.S. nationwide consortium whose principal focus is to expand the science of remote sensing through education, outreach, and research/applications development. These development initiatives would be geared toward the use of remote sensing data and imagery in support of environmental monitoring, such as understanding the effects of land use and land cover change; water quality, quantity, and utility; societal adaptation and phenology; public health-related issues to include identification of potential indicators relating to vector-borne diseases and harmful algal blooms; natural resource management; agricultural applications; disaster risk reduction; and other land surface and surface water monitoring applications.

This program will fund projects targeted to States’ needs, assuring that all users of remotely sensed data have equal, efficient access to the data, to support science research, landscape monitoring, natural resource management, climate change assessment, mitigation and adaptation, or for other State and local scientific and public use. The grant objectives can be found within the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).  (G23AS00381).

One (1) grant will be awarded via this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO). Grants are normally awarded in, but are not restricted to, twelve (12) month budget periods. The estimated amount of funding available is \$1,465,000 for the first year, with the total program not exceeding \$12,000,000 over five (5) years.   Subject to the availability of funds and initial program results, USGS anticipates funding this annually as an ongoing program. NLRSEORA is a long-standing grant activity within the USGS and this competitive announcement is for a new potentially five year period as described immediately above. The incumbent is AmericaView under existing grant award G18AP00077. AmericaView is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which is eligible to apply for this grant.
