Waihou Mitigation Area, Maui Island, bat acoustic activity, diet and prey availability, 2015 to 2018 Waihou Mitigation Area, Maui Island, bat acoustic activity, diet and prey availability, 2015 to 2018

Habitat use, diet, prey availability and foraging ecology of the endangered Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus, Vespertilionidae) were examined in the east Maui region inclusive of the Waihou Mitigation Area, Pu'u Makua Restoration Area and the wind power facility operated by Auwahi Wind Energy, LLC. The study was conducted to inform the mitigation and management requirements...

Mean annual water-budget components for the Island of Maui, Hawaii, for average climate conditions, 1978-2007 rainfall and 2017 land cover Mean annual water-budget components for the Island of Maui, Hawaii, for average climate conditions, 1978-2007 rainfall and 2017 land cover

This shapefile represents the spatial distribution of mean annual water-budget components, in inches, for the Island of Maui, Hawaii for an average (or present-day) climate condition and 2017 land cover, as described in USGS SIR 2019-5064. The water-budget components for each model subarea were computed for a scenario representative of present-day climate conditions during 1978-2007...

This shapefile represents the spatial distribution of mean annual water-budget components, in inches, for the Island of Maui, Hawaii for a projected climate condition representative of phase 3 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3) A1B 2080-99 scenario climate and 2017 land cover, as described in USGS SIR 2019-5064. The water-budget components for each model subarea were...

Habitat characterization around standard brown treesnake traps on Guam, 2004 - 2017 Habitat characterization around standard brown treesnake traps on Guam, 2004 - 2017

Data were collected in association with locations of standard brown treesnake traps on Guam at location prior to suppression or control efforts and after control had occurred. In all cases study sites were closed or semi-closed populations of brown treesnakes. Habitat data focused on type and structure of the habitat within 10-m of the trap.

Land-Cover Map for the Island of Maui, Hawaii, 2017 Land-Cover Map for the Island of Maui, Hawaii, 2017

This dataset describes land cover and vegetation for the island of Maui, Hawaii, circa 2017, hereinafter the 2017 land-cover map. The 2017 land-cover map is a modified version of the dataset titled "Mean annual water-budget components for the Island of Maui, Hawaii, for recent conditions, 1978-2007 rainfall and 2010 land-cover map" by Johnson (2015), hereinafter the 2010 land-cover map...

Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, Hawaiian hoary bat acoustic activity and insect prey data 2013-2015 Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, Hawaiian hoary bat acoustic activity and insect prey data 2013-2015

We examined habitat use and foraging activity of the endangered Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus semotus), as well as nocturnal aerial insect abundance at Kaloko-Hon kohau National Historical Park located in the coastal region of Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i Island. The study area covers approximately 486 ha of marine waters and terrestrial coastal plains. Hawaiian hoary bat echolocation

Hawaii Island Hawaiian hoary bat foraging location data 2004-2010 Hawaii Island Hawaiian hoary bat foraging location data 2004-2010

Hawaiian hoary bats (Lasiurus cinereus semotus) on Hawaii island were surveyed intermittently from 2004-2010. This data release is a single table of resulting bat location estimates, including date, time, coordinates for each location, and presumed bat activity at the time of collection. Nightly movements were documented for 30 Hawaiian hoary bats along the windward (eastern) side of the...

Summary of soil field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, hydrophobicity, and preferential-flow measurements and soil laboratory-testing results collected at three sites on the islands of Maui and Hawaii, Hawaii, July 2016-January 2018 Summary of soil field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, hydrophobicity, and preferential-flow measurements and soil laboratory-testing results collected at three sites on the islands of Maui and Hawaii, Hawaii, July 2016-January 2018

The U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Islands Water Science Center and the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Geography, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Interior Pacific Islands Climate Adaptation Science Center initiated a field data-collection program as part of a study to quantify the impacts of drought on water resources and the importance of cloud-water interception...

Hawaii Island Regeneration of Metrosideros polymorpha forests since landscape-level canopy dieback in the 1970s Hawaii Island Regeneration of Metrosideros polymorpha forests since landscape-level canopy dieback in the 1970s

We analyzed very-high-resolution imagery to assess status of Metrosideros polymorpha forests across an 83,603-hectare study area that experienced extensive canopy dieback in the 1970s on the eastern side of the island of Hawaii. Using GIS we generated 1,170 virtual vegetation plots with a 100-m radius; 541 plots in areas mapped in 1977 with trees dead or mostly defoliated (dieback), and...
