Landslide Automated Geospatial Processing Software Using a High-Performance Computer
This software contains the data processing for nationwide landslide research described in Mirus et al. 2024, Parsimonious landslide-susceptibility modeling at continental scales: Application for the conterminous United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. To perform geospatial processing over the large geographic area, each 1/3 arc-second (10-meter) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is processed independently in a ‘high throughput’ fashion. By using a USGS high-performance computer (hpc) for computations, multiple DEMs can be processed concurrently and large amounts of data can be accessed efficiently through high-speed file storage connections. This software data processing involves preparing geospatial files and creating additional topographic data needed for each DEM, then integrating this information with each landslide in the national landslide database. The result is a geospatial database with landslide points and attached information that is ready for the data analysis according to the methods described in the research paper.
