John Hoffmann

Biography

John Hoffmann is currently the Chief of the Water Science Field Team, a group of Technical Specialists dedicated to provide quality assurance, technology transfer and technical assistance to Water Science Centers.  A former Director for the USGS Arizona Water Science Center,  he joined the USGS in 1984 at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory as a staff geologist monitoring Kilauea volcano on the Big Island. John then joined the Hawaii District of the Water Resources Division in 1988 where he studied groundwater/saltwater interactions in Hawaii andMicronesia. John had been with the USGS Arizona Water Science Center since 1995 until he joined the Water Science Filed Team in 2013. In Arizona, John served many roles including Director, Associate Director, Section Chief and Project Chief.  His interests are in regional groundwater availability, groundwater/surfacewater interaction, and the application of geophysical methods for hydrological studies. John has a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Michigan Technological University and a Master’s degree in Geology from the University of Hawaii.
