Sedimentation Surveys in Puerto Rico
Reservoirs provide most of the water supply for Puerto Rico. Most of them were constructed in the early and middle 20th century and sediment accumulation has significantly reduced their original storage capacity. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has been conducting a series of bathymetric surveys using a global positioning system (GPS) and a geographic information system (GIS) technology on the...Dam Failure Analysis for the Lago El Guineo Dam, Puerto Rico
The USGS Scientific Investigations Report 2016-5070 describing a hydrologic and hydraulic study to assess the potential hazard to human life and property associated with the hypothetical failure of the Lago El Guineo Dam was completed by the USGS in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority.Dam Failure Analysis for Lago de Matrullas Dam, Puerto Rico
The USGS, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, completed a hydrologic and hydraulic study to assess the potential hazard to human life and property associated with the hypothetical failure of the Lago de Matrullas Dam, located within the headwaters of the Río Grande de Manatí. - Data
Data Files for USGS Response to Hurricane Maria Flooding in Puerto Rico and Characterization of Peak Streamflows Observed September 20-22, 2017
This data release provides topographic (horizontal and vertical) data for 78 sites, surveyed from November 2017 to July 2019 as part of documentation of flooding that occurred in Puerto Rico during and after Hurricane Maria (September to November 2017). Hurricane Maria made landfall the Island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 and was one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. Metadata for this geodatabase describe datasets included in the bathymetric study completed for Lago Patillas in August 2019. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, carried out a bathymetric survey to update stage-volume table for Lago Patillas and to generate a bathymetric map. Water-depth data were collected using a bathymetric data collection sData for Bathymetric Survey and Sedimentation Analysis of Lago Carite, Puerto Rico, January 2018
This data release contains spatial data associated with the bathymetric survey and sedimentation analysis of Lago Carite in January 2018. During January 23-30, 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, conducted a bathymetric survey of Lago Carite primarily to update estimates of the contemporary reservoir storage capacity and sedimentation rat - Maps
Bathymetric survey and sedimentation analysis of Lago Patillas, Puerto Rico, August 2019
In August 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, conducted a bathymetric survey of Lago Patillas to update stage-volume data in order to determine the sediment infill rates and to generate a bathymetry map. Water-depth data were collected along predefined lines using single-beam depth sounder and Differential Global Positioning System technoBathymetric survey and sedimentation analysis of Lago Carite, Puerto Rico, January 2018
During January 23–30, 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, conducted a bathymetric survey of Lago Carite primarily to update estimates of the contemporary reservoir storage capacity and sedimentation rate. Previously designated transect lines were surveyed by using a depth sounder coupled to a differential Global Positioning System to geneSedimentation survey of Lago Guayabal, Villalba, Puerto Rico, December 2017
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, conducted a sedimentation survey of Lago Guayabal in 2017 to determine reservoir infill sedimentation rates, generate a bathymetric map of the bottom elevations of the reservoir, and create a stage-volume relation. The original (1913) capacity of Lago Guayabal was 11.82 million cubic meters, and efforts to in - Multimedia

Hydrology, water quality, and biological characteristics of Levittown Lake, Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, April 2010–June 2011
Levittown Lake is a 30-hectare, brackish waterbody located in the municipality of Toa Baja, on the northern coast of Puerto Rico. The lake is a small, man-made feature formed by draining the marshland over which the Levittown community was built. Levittown Lake has an average depth of about 5 meters and a water level at/near mean sea level. Tidal oscillations within the lake were minimal during thAuthorsLuis R. Soler-López, Julieta M. Coastal lagoons are common features of the Puerto Rico shoreline that provide habitat for commercial and recreational species and serve important roles in the nutrient cycle of the ecosystems. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Puerto Rico Environmental Quality Board, conducted a limnological study at Caño Boquerón in Cabo Rojo and at Puerto Mosquito on Isla de Vieques, Puerto RicAuthorsJulieta M. Gómez-Fragoso, José A. Santiago-SáezProjecting impacts of climate change on water availability using artificial neural network techniques
Lago Loíza reservoir in east-central Puerto Rico is one of the primary sources of public water supply for the San Juan metropolitan area. To evaluate and predict the Lago Loíza water budget, an artificial neural network (ANN) technique is trained to predict river inflows. A method is developed to combine ANN-predicted daily flows with ANN-predicted 30-day cumulative flows to improve flow estimatesAuthorsEric D.
