Timothy (Tim) A. Glynn serves as the Chief of Staff at the USGS Earth Resources and Observation Science Center (EROS) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He retired from the U.S. Army and joined the EROS team in July 2020. Tim is a matrixed employee who also serves as the Acting Project Manager for Communications and Outreach (C&O) and the Land Satellites Data System (LSDS) Program.
Prior to working at EROS, Tim served in the U.S. Army and the Iowa Army National Guard for a total of 32 years.
He started his active-duty U.S. Army officer career path in 1989 after graduating from the University of South Dakota with a Regular Army commission. Upon completing the U.S. Army Intelligence School, he served in Worms, Germany, as a Platoon Leader and a Counter-Intelligence Officer for the U.S. Army Europe Information Systems Command.
Upon returning from his European Tour, Tim and his family moved to Sioux Falls, and he joined the Iowa National Guard as a drilling member, commanding an Infantry Company and a Cavalry Troop in Northwest Iowa. While living in Sioux Falls, Tim worked as a business manager in the corporate world for three years, eventually starting his own therapy company.
After five years as a business owner, Tim returned to government service as an Active Duty Iowa National Guard Officer, where he spent 22 years. While raising his family in the Des Moines area, his service included command positions in Counterdrug; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN); and Emergency Response programs working with law enforcement and the State of Iowa Office of Homeland Security. During this time, Tim was the Iowa National Guard State Deployment Officer, facilitating the deployment of over 5,300 soldiers in three years, including his own deployment to Panjshir, Afghanistan, in 2010.
Tim’s Senior Leadership positions included tours as a Brigade Level Commander, the State Director of Personnel, and the Iowa Army National Guard Chief of Staff. The culmination of Tim’s career was at U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was the Director of Intelligence, Mobilization Assistant (J2MA-Reserve Officer).
Tim and his wife, Cathy, are from South Dakota. They have two married children, Elizabeth (Iowa) and Stephen (Nebraska).
