Declassified Satellite Imagery - 2 (2002) Data Dictionary

 

Acquisition Date

• Field Definition:  The year, month, and day the image was acquired.

          Format:

         YYYY/MM/DD

         YYYY = Year

         MM = Month

        DD = Day

 

Browse Availability Flag/Image Preview

• Field Definition:  This flag identifies whether or not the entity has a browse image available with it. A browse image provides the user with a visual overview of an inventory item to check cloud cover and to verify that the area of interest is contained in the selected frame.

          Values:

          Yes

          No

        Note: Preview images are resampled from the original data and may not accurately represent the full resolution product.

 

Camera Resolution

• Field Definition:  The camera types are displayed in conjunction with an accompanying flight resolution.

          Values:

          KH-7 two to four feet

         KH-9 twenty to thirty feet

 

Camera Type

• Field Definition:  This field is used to identify camera modes which include high resolution surveillance and lower resolution mapping cameras.

         Values:

         H = KH-7 High Resolution Surveillance Camera

         L = KH-9 Lower Resolution Mapping Camera

 

Coordinates - Decimal Degrees

• Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in decimal degrees for the following fields:

           Values:

           Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

           Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

           Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

           Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

           Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

 

          Latitude Format Decimal Degrees: -90.000 through 90.000

          Longitude Format Decimal Degrees: -180.000 through 180.000

 

         Number of decimal places will vary by dataset – check collection in EE.

 

Coordinates - Degrees, Minutes, Seconds

• Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in degrees, minutes, and seconds for the following fields:

          Values:

          Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

          Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

         Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

         Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

        Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

 

         Latitude Format:

         DDMMSS.SSH

         DD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 90

         MM = Minutes(s) with a range of 0 through 59

         SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

         H = Hemisphere with N for north and S for south

 

         Longitude Format:

         DDDMMSS.SSH

         DDD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 180

         MM = Minute(s) with a range of 0 through 59

         SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

         H = Hemisphere with E for east and W for west

 

Download Available

• Field Definition:  This field is used to indicate if an image has already been scanned and is available for immediate download.

 

Entity ID

• Field Definition:  A unique series of letters and numbers based on information related to the photograph that are used to identify the image.

          Format:

         DZIMMMMMMOOOOOCFFFSSS

         DZ = Data set Name

         I = Image Type B=? or C=?

         MMMMMM = Mission and Bucket Number

         OOOOO = Operations Number

         C = Camera Type

         L =

         H =

        FFF = Frame Number

       SSS = Segment Count

 

       Depending upon the entity ID, some of the information may be prefaced with zero-filled spaces.

       Example:

            DZB1214-500347L001001

 

Film Type

• Field Definition:  Film type indicates width and length of image on roll of film.

          Values:

          9 inch by 18 inch

         9 inch by variable

 

Frame Number

• Field Definition:  Each image is designated by a number that indicates a frame position on a roll of film.

 

Generation

• Field Definition:  This field is used to identify the generation of the film. All Declass 2 film sources at USGS EROS are second generation copies of color film or third generation copies of black-and-white film.

         Values:

         2 = Second generation

         3 = Third generation

 

High Resolution Download Available

• Field Definition:  This field indicates if a high resolution download is currently available for the product. Standard high resolution products are at a resolution of 25 microns or 1,000 dots per inch (dpi). Medium resolution products are at a resolution of 63 microns or 400 dpi.
  
  Note: EarthExplorer will have a shopping basket icon on the results page for images that are available for on-demand scanning. On-demand scanning options for black and white images include 25 microns (1,000 dpi), 14 microns (1,800 dpi), or 7 microns (3,600 dpi). On-demand scanning options for color images include 25 microns (1,000 dpi) or 14 microns (1,800 dpi). Color images are limited to 14-micron due to file size.

 

Image Type

• Field Definition:  Image type identifies the film source as Black and White or Color-Infrared.

          Valid Codes:

          1 = Black and White

          2 = Color-Infrared

 

Mission Number

• Field Definition:  Number assigned to a single flight duration. This may include a bucket number of film.

 

Operations Number

• Field Definition:  The operations number identifies the start and stop of each photographic sequence within a mission.

          Example:

          05812

 

Polarity

• Field Definition:  This field is used to identify the film source as a negative or positive image.

          Values:

          Negative

          Positive

 

Segment Count

• Field Definition:  The number of 30 inch segments within the image.
