Bibliography and index of the geology of the Creede mining district and vicinity Bibliography and index of the geology of the Creede mining district and vicinity
This bibliography and index of the geology of the Creede mining district and vicinity was prepared in support of the increased number of studies being conducted in conjunction with the proposed deep drilling program at Creede. It was our intent to include in this compilation all papers, abstracts, and maps which contribute any information pertaining to the geology of the Creede district...

Statistics of petroleum exploration in the non-Communist world outside the United States and Canada Statistics of petroleum exploration in the non-Communist world outside the United States and Canada
The search for petroleum has expanded to include most countries in the world. From January 1, 1950, through 1980, about 160,000 crew months were spent in geologic and geophysical exploration in a study area that includes all nonCommunist countries outside the United States and Canada. By the end of 1982, almost 27,000 wildcat wells had been drilled in this study area; these and other pre...

Products of hexachlorocyclopentadiene (C-56) in aqueous solution Products of hexachlorocyclopentadiene (C-56) in aqueous solution
The photodegradation and degradation products of hexachlorocyclopentadiene (C-56) in aqueous solutions were studied in the laboratory. In each case, the half-life of C-56 was less than 4 min when exposed to sunlight. At least eight degradation products were positively or tentatively identified: 2,3,4,4,5-Pentachloro-2-cyclopentenone, hexachloro-2-cyclopentenone and hexachloro-3...

Source of lead and mineralizing brines for rossie-type Pb-Zn veins in the Frontenac axis area, New York ( USA). Source of lead and mineralizing brines for rossie-type Pb-Zn veins in the Frontenac axis area, New York ( USA).
Veins composed mainly of calcite and some galena, sphalerite, fluorite, and other minerals are widespread in the Frontenac axis area of New York and Ontario. In New York, the veins (Fig. 1) occur mainly west and northwest of Gouverneur (Brown, 1983). The veins, mined in the 1800s for lead, were first described by Emmons (1838). Smyth (1903) called these the "Rossie lead veins," a name...

Resource assessments, geologic deposit models, and offshore minerals with an example of heavy-mineral sands Resource assessments, geologic deposit models, and offshore minerals with an example of heavy-mineral sands
A resource assessment method for offshore minerals based on descriptive and grade-tonnage models is proposed. Historical development and applications of this method are summarized. Based on this approach, descriptive and quantitative deposit models for strand-line titanium placer deposits have been developed. Descriptive statistics were also computed using the worldwide deposit data set...

Aluminum in hornblende: an empirical igneous geobarometer. Aluminum in hornblende: an empirical igneous geobarometer.
Electron-microprobe analyses of hornblendes from five calc-alkaline plutonic complexes representing low- and high-pressure regimes define a tightly clustered linear trend in terms of total Al (AlT) and tetrahedral Al (Aliv) contents. Data collated from the literature on calcic amphiboles from other plutonic complexes and from phase equilibrium experiments using natural rocks or synthetic...

Petroleum industry drilling in industrialized and developing areas Petroleum industry drilling in industrialized and developing areas
International drilling statistics show significant differences in target depths as well as the mix between onshore and offshore wells. Unlike the USA, where most of the drilling has been concentrated in depths to 5000 f (shallow depths), the preponderance of wildcat wells drilled in South America and Africa reach much deeper horizons. Offshore wildcat drilling represents less than 4% of...

Significance of tourmaline-rich rocks in the Grenville Complex of St. Lawrence County, New York Significance of tourmaline-rich rocks in the Grenville Complex of St. Lawrence County, New York
Feldspathic quartzite and metapelite of Middle Proterozic age north of Gouverneur, N.Y., contain abundant dravite-uvite (magnesian tourmaline). These rocks, more than 1,000 feet thick, are regionally metamorphosed to the upper amphibolite facies, are pyritic, and locally contain porphyroblastic scapolite. The rocks are underlain by talctremolite schist and a thick sequence of calcitic...
