Most water-quality issues in the State of Hawaiʻi and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands are related to protecting public drinking-water supplies and reducing the impacts of land-use activities on surface-water and groundwater. The USGS Pacific Islands Water Science Center is focused on developing new and innovative science to increase our understanding of the natural and human factors that influence water quality and to evaluate long-term changes. This information is needed by water-resource managers to implement effective water-quality management actions and evaluate long-term changes in water quality.
