Groundwater is the primary source of water supply in the State of Hawaiʻi and in many of the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands. In addition to human uses, many ecosystems are dependent on groundwater discharge to streams, lakes, wetlands, and nearshore environments. The USGS Pacific Islands Water Science Center is focused on developing new and innovative science to evaluate and answer complex questions related to managing and protecting groundwater resources.
