Pennsylvania Groundwater Quality Monitoring Network Active

In 2015, the Pennsylvania Water Science Center established a long-term, fixed-station ambient groundwater quality monitoring network at 17 observation wells distributed throughout Pennsylvania. Since then, the network has expanded to 28 wells. Each well is sampled in the spring and fall of every year for major elements, trace metals, nutrients, and organic compounds. First-time wells are sampled for light hydrocarbons, radiological elements, and volatile organic compounds. Project goals include characterizing ambient groundwater quality conditions, monitoring short- and long-term changes in groundwater quality, and generating statistical reports and analyses of sample results.

Project data can be explored using the Pennsylvania Groundwater Quality Monitoring Network Data Exploration Tool:

• View graphs of concentration changes over time
• Download data from an annually updated Data Release.

Project data can be accessed through the Data Release, which is updated at the conclusion of each sampling season.
