Congratulations to the Monarch Conservation Science Partnership for receiving a 2020 Department of the Interior Natural Resource Conservation Achievement Award. The Team received this award in the Trailblazer category for efforts to address concerns related to the Monarch butterfly including conducting extinction risk research to establish the minimum overwintering population size required to sustain the eastern migratory Monarch population. This standard was subsequently adopted as the trinational goal of Canada, U.S., and Mexico. The Monarch Conservation Science Partnership served as the model for the Trinational Science Partnership supported by the Trilateral Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
The Natural Resource Conservation Achievement Awards recognize employees and partners for excellence in environmental management and performance. This Team’s exceptional achievements were particularly deserving of this recognition.
