The Upper Midwest Water Science Center is looking for a highly motivated individual to support data collection efforts for USGS projects, such as monitoring water quality conditions in streams across the upper Midwest. This position will begin in January, 2025 and will require full-time work during winter, spring, and summer, with possible opportunities for intermittent work throughout the remainder of the year.
One position will be hired for the Green Bay, WI office at the GS-3/4/5 pay grade (depending upon qualifications; starting salary range is $ 17.00 to 24.65 per hour). Details about the position and how to apply are available on the Field Assistant Recruitment Bulletin. Please read the requirements in the bulletin and email your resume and other required documents (if necessary) to the hiring manager (Todd Stuntebeck; tdstunte@usgs.gov). The recruitment bulletin will close on October 12, 2024.
There will be on-the-job training to learn USGS techniques and methods, and we are looking for a candidate that can bring additional skills to the position. There are many experiences outside of college or a formal science education that may have taught you skills that are relevant to this position. We hope you’ll consider applying if you have a willingness to learn new things and have skills or experience in working outdoors, fixing or troubleshooting electronics, navigating waterbodies, using power tools, or using or collecting data. Employment as a Field Assistant is a great way to gain the valuable experiences the USGS has to offer, as well as contribute to the understanding of water issues that are impacting your communities. Field Assistants will be responsible for the collection of data for a wide range of water related studies and will include learning water-quality measurement techniques, data entry, and analysis skills to help USGS meet its goals.
