Water Quality

The Utah Water Science Center collects water and sediment samples for chemical, physical, and biological analyses. Results of discrete sample analyses are stored in a national database that is a large and complex set of data. Nationally, more than 4.5 million records are stored in the database that have been collected by a variety of projects ranging from national programs to studies in small watersheds. 

At selected surface-water and groundwater sites, the USGS maintains instruments that continuously record physical and chemical characteristics of the water including temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, and percent dissolved-oxygen saturation.
