Minnesota Point post-nourishment surveys of the beach topography and near-shore bathymetry of Lake Superior, Duluth, MN, September - October, 2021 (ver. 2.0, September 2024)
This data represents elevation of the beach topography and near-shore bathymetry of Lake Superior at two beach nourishment locations along Minnesota Point, Duluth, Minnesota. The first location is near the Superior point of entry, and was surveyed in September 2021. The second location is near the Duluth Entry and was surveyed in October 2021. LiDAR data were collected using a Velodyne VLP-16 unit representing the beach topography. Single-beam (SB) and multibeam sonar data were collected for bathymetry using a CeeScope (SB) and Norbit integrated Wide Band Multibeam System compact (iWBMSc) sonar. The dataset includes DEMs of the terrestrial beach areas and topobathy (combined terrestrial and bathymetry), LAS and XYZ files of LiDAR, SB, and MB data, and 2-ft contours derived from the bathymetry. Data were collected in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District, to define beach topography and near-shore bathymetry before and after placing dredge spoils to mitigate beach erosion.
