Topographic data, aerial imagery, and GPS data collected during uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) operations at Laudholm Marsh, Wells, Maine, December 1, 2025
The U.S. Geological Survey deployed small uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS) to collect aerial remote sensing data across the Laudholm Marsh in Wells, Maine. These datasets were processed to produce high resolution digital elevation models (DEM), image mosaics, and lidar point clouds (LPC). Black and white cross-coded ground control points (GCPs) were surveyed using Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GNSS and RTK-GNSS enabled AeroPoints to georeference the model and orthomosaics during post-processing. The elevation and imagery products were produced to provide scientists at the USGS Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC) and associated researchers with accurate elevation data for the Laudholm Marsh during the winter "leaf-off" period (December) and both natural-color (RGB) and thermal infra-red (TIR) image mosaics showing the present landcover and thermal conditions and will be used within a hydrologic model framework to understand water flow within the marsh system.
