FORT Scientists Present Invasive Reptile Research at the 2023 Everglades CISMA Summit
A group of FORT researchers presented their work on invasive species at the 2023 Everglades Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (ECISMA) Summit.
USGS-FORT staff (Mark Sandfoss, Amanda Kissel, and Amy Yackel Adams) participated in the presentation of two talks this week on invasive reptile research conducted in collaboration with USGS-WARC (Jacqueline Guzy and Kristen Hart), University of Florida-Gainesville (Christina Romagosa), University of Florida-Davie (Melissa Miller and Frank Mazzotti), and NPS (Tylan Dean and Matthew McCollister).
The title of the two talks were, “USGS Nonnative wildlife research updates” and “Assessment of invasive species removal efforts” and were presented at the annual summit for Everglades Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (Everglades CISMA) held July 11 and 12, 2023. The presentations highlighted past and future research on Burmese pythons, tegu lizards, and veiled chameleons by USGS and its cooperators.
The Everglades CISMA is an interagency partnership that manages, researches, and educates about invasive species across South Florida. The Everglades CISMA contains six major partners plus numerous cooperators including federal, state, and local government agencies, universities, tribes, and nonprofit organizations.
