August 23, 2018 – Landsat 1-5 MSS Pre-Collection Data to be Removed

On September 24, 2018, the Pre-Collection Landsat 1-5 Multispectral Scanner (MSS) dataset will be removed from EarthExplorer.

MSS data were processed into Collection 1 earlier this year, completing the USGS Landsat archive processing effort that began in 2016. The Landsat Collection inventory structure ensures that all Level-1 products provide a consistent archive of known data quality to support time-series analyses.

 

Users have been encouraged to proactively use only Landsat 1-8 Collection 1 datasets in their applications in preparation for this.
