December 8, 2014 - Geometric Excellence of Landsat 8 Highlighted

Excellent geolocation and internal geometric performance of the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) on board Landsat 8 permit all Landsat images to be georegistered accurately.

Even L1Gt data products without the ground control (nighttime or ocean data, images with very little land and heavy clouds) needed to create a “precision-corrected” L1T data product can be accurately georegistered.
