In the event that U.S. Federal agencies are confronted with a lapse in appropriations on January 19, 2018, the Landsat 7 and 8 satellites will continue mission essential operations.
The satellites will collect and downlink data to the Landsat Ground Network (LGN) and International Cooperators. The data received by the LGN will be transmitted to the U.S. Geological Survey EROS Center for ingest, processed to Level-0R, and archived. Landsat data products will not be generated, and data access and distribution services will be suspended during this time. Once U.S. Federal agencies return to operational status, Landsat data product generation will resume, as will data access and distribution services.
