In late May 2020, Landsat 8 data that were acquired after a December 2019 spacecraft safehold event were reprocessed and have been made available for download as “OLI-only” scenes.
On December 19, 2019, Landsat 8 experienced a constraint that caused the spacecraft to enter into a safehold. The Landsat Flight Operations Team successfully recovered the spacecraft from the event on December 20, 2019 and resumed nominal on-orbit operations and ground station processing on December 22, 2019.
As described in this January 2020 Headline, data acquired on December 20, 2019 and for most of the day on December 21, 2019 were ingested into the USGS Landsat Archive and marked as "Engineering data" until further assessment could be completed to determine data quality.
In late May 2020, the majority of these data were successfully reprocessed into full nominal scenes, but contain data from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor only; no data from the Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) are included. The 762 scenes, listed in this file, are visible and downloadable from EarthExplorer as “OLI-only”.
