This cooperation continues, as development begins on the next Earth-observing mission, Landsat 9, which is scheduled to launch no later than 2023.

NASA's Landsat Science webpages provide a wealth of information about Landsat data, and how it is being used in the field by scientists studying agriculture, carbon and climate, water resources, fires and disasters, urban growth, and many other applications. Recent stories describe how Landsat is used in the restoration of watersheds in Western Tanzania, as well as how the Nature Conservancy of California is using Landsat to monitor bird migration patterns in the United States.
