Due to a lapse in appropriations, the majority of USGS websites may not be up to date and may not reflect current conditions. Websites displaying real-time data, such as Earthquake, Volcano, LANDSAT and Water information needed for public health and safety will be updated with limited support. Additionally, USGS will not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. For more information, please see www.doi.gov/shutdown.
Landsat Collection 1 data are now available on EarthExplorer.
Collection 1 data contain notable improvements from Pre-Collection data. The Landsat Collections webpage details these changes along with modifications to the EarthExplorer interface.
This initial Landsat Collection 1 release includes Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ scenes only. Collection 1 processing begins with the most recently acquired Landsat scenes and steps backwards through the archive. Scenes collected over the conterminous United States will be processed for Collection 1 first, followed by the rest of the globe. Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ Collection 1 reprocessing is expected to last until April 2017.
Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS data is scheduled to begin Collection 1 processing in November 2016 with an anticipated initial public release date of January 2017. Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Collection 1 processing will follow the same procedure as Landsat 4-5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ and reprocessing is expected to last until May 2017.
The Pre-Collection archive will continue to be populated with newly acquired scenes and will remain available for download until the entire Landsat archive has been reprocessed to Collection 1 standards.
