The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Fractional cover estimates of sweet clover derived from UAV, aerial, and Sentinel-2 imagery for central Montana and northwest South Dakota, 2019 Fractional cover estimates of sweet clover derived from UAV, aerial, and Sentinel-2 imagery for central Montana and northwest South Dakota, 2019

Yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis; clover hereafter) is a biennial legume native to Eurasia that is now present in all 50 states. Clover can grow 2 m tall and achieve high densities across large areas in the Northern Great Plains when conditions are conducive, such as in 2019. Clover is highly efficient at fixing nitrogen in soils which reduces the abundance of native grasses...

GageStats Services GageStats Services

The Gage Statistic (GageStats) Services were developed to provide gage characteristics and streamflow statistics to support the StreamStats application via RESTful principles. The StreamStats application uses GageStats Services to display the gages and related gage pages. These services provide U.S. Geological Survey developed and published gage characteristics such as drainage area or...

Soil and Vegetation Data from Lake-Margin Wetlands in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge Soil and Vegetation Data from Lake-Margin Wetlands in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge

This data release includes six child items of soil and vegetation data from lake margin soils of the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska. Data includes multiple lakes that are defined as either stable or drying. Lake margin vegetation communities include graminoid, shrub, and forest. Sols are separated into organic and mineral layers. Microbial data includes different...

dataRetrieval dataRetrieval

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed an R package called dataRetrieval to help simplify the process of discovering and retrieving water quality sample data, streamflow, groundwater, and other data available from Federal hydrologic web services such as National Water Information Systems (NWIS), the EPA Water Quality Exchange (WQX) System, and the National Hydrologic Dataset via the...

Fish eggs collected in the St. Clair, Detroit, and St. Marys rivers, 2005-2022 Fish eggs collected in the St. Clair, Detroit, and St. Marys rivers, 2005-2022

A long-term, multiseason, fish egg sampling program is conducted annually on the Detroit, Saint Clair, and Saint Marys rivers to identify where productive fish spawning habitat currently exists and evaluate habitat restoration projects. Egg mats were placed on the river bottom during the spring and fall at historic spawning areas, candidate fish spawning habitat restoration sites, and...

Substrate hardness and walleye (Sander vitreus) and lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) egg presence in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, before and after substrate cleaning experiments and walleye hatching success experiments, 2018-2019 Substrate hardness and walleye (Sander vitreus) and lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) egg presence in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, before and after substrate cleaning experiments and walleye hatching success experiments, 2018-2019

These data include a field study of the sediment hardness and fish egg density (walleye [Sander vitreus] and lake whitefish [Coregonus clupeaformis]) after sediment cleaning treatments (propulsion sled or hydro-jet sled) conducted at two reef locations in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, during 2018 and 2019. The data includes the year, species, reef, treatment type (jet, fan, control), number...

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Virginia and North Carolina Fall Zone, 2021 Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Virginia and North Carolina Fall Zone, 2021

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over Virginia and North Carolina along and near the eastern U.S. 'Fall Zone', which represents the transitional area between Atlantic Coastal Plain sediments and Piedmont metamorphic and igneous rocks. The airborne data collection was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey...

Long-term monitoring data from eastern screech owl populations in northern Ohio, 1944-1971 Long-term monitoring data from eastern screech owl populations in northern Ohio, 1944-1971

Data include population information of eastern screech owl (Megascops asio, formerly Otus asio) populations in four counties of northern Ohio. Researchers recorded adult and chick color phases, eggs laid, brood size and location.

Effects of shading on the rare plant species, Trillium texanum (Melanthiaceae) Effects of shading on the rare plant species, Trillium texanum (Melanthiaceae)

The original distribution of the study species Trillium texanum is seep spring baygalls in east-central Texas and extreme northwestern Louisiana. Experiments to determine the effects of shading on T. texanum were conducted using short-term shade cloth treatments (full sunlight vs. 30% shading for 2-3 weeks), and a dryness treatment (moist vs. less moist). Mean height and cover responses...

Effects of shading on the rare plant species, Physostegia correllii (Lamiaceae) Effects of shading on the rare plant species, Physostegia correllii (Lamiaceae)

The original distribution of the study species Physostegia correllii included freshwater floodplains of large rivers in the southcentral U.S. (Colorado, Rio Grande, Mississippi). Experiments to determine the effects of shading on P. correllii were conducted using short-term shade cloth treatments (full sunlight vs. 30% shading for 2-3 weeks). Mean height and cover responses of...

Detection of Multiple Fish Species Using Environmental DNA (eDNA), Alaska 2018 Detection of Multiple Fish Species Using Environmental DNA (eDNA), Alaska 2018

This release provides results of an environmental DNA (eDNA) study of fish identified in seven Alaskan lakes, three streams, and a positive control. Samples included replicates for multiple sampling dates and locations. The reference list and conserved primer sets to identify species present were developed using publicly available data (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/). Highly...
