Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Lead (Pb) in Bald and Golden Eagles from 38 United States, USA, 2010-2018 Lead (Pb) in Bald and Golden Eagles from 38 United States, USA, 2010-2018

We evaluated lead poisoning in bald and golden eagles during all seasons of the year and from states in each of the four major flyways throughout the continental USA.

Geothermal slide-hold-slide experiments on bare surface Westerly granite Geothermal slide-hold-slide experiments on bare surface Westerly granite

Laboratory slide-hold-slide tests, combined with flow through tests, conducted on Westerly granite with 30 degree sawcut. Tests were conducted with a constant confining pressure of 30 MPa with an average pore pressure of 10 MPa at temperatures of 23 and 200 degC. Three fluid flow conditions were examined (1) no flow, (2) cycled flow, and (3) continuous flow.

Juvenile Smallmouth Bass Sampling from the Yellowstone River, Montana 2016-2019 Juvenile Smallmouth Bass Sampling from the Yellowstone River, Montana 2016-2019

Field data of age-0 smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) estimated age, lengths and weights, distribution from field sampling, and results from environmental DNA surveys from the Yellowstone River in Montana. Data were used in conjunction with existing stream temperature data from USGS gages to evaluate if temperature is related to age-0 size at the onset of winter.

Spectral reflectance measurements of radiometric calibration panels for UAS image calibration Spectral reflectance measurements of radiometric calibration panels for UAS image calibration

Calibration panels are used as reference materials with known reflectance characteristics to convert remote sensing image pixel values to scientific units such as reflectance. At the time of purchase, the panel vendor typically provides the customer with reflectance data for the panel. The vendor-provided spectral data as a reference for each panel’s reflectance values at the time of...

Compilation of geologic slip rate constraints used in 1996-2014 U.S. National Seismic Hazard Models (ver. 2.0, February 2022) Compilation of geologic slip rate constraints used in 1996-2014 U.S. National Seismic Hazard Models (ver. 2.0, February 2022)

A key input for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is geologic slip rate data. Here, we compile all geologic slip rates that are reportedly used in U.S. National Seismic Hazard Map (NSHM) releases from 1996, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2014. Although a new NSHM was released in 2018, no changes were made in geologic slip rate data used. The geologic slip rates are collated from...

Earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023 (western US) (ver. 2.0, February 2022) Earthquake geology inputs for the U.S. National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) 2023 (western US) (ver. 2.0, February 2022)

This Data Release contains preliminary versions of two related databases: 1) A fault sections database ('NSHM23_FSD_v2'), which depicts the geometry of faults capable of hosting independent earthquakes, and 2) An earthquake geology site information database ('NSHM23_EQGeoDB_v2'), which contains fault slip-rate constraints at points. These databases were prepared in anticipation of...

Pre and post treatment (2016-2021) vegetation cover for three southwest Idaho sites treated with pre-emergent herbicides after fire Pre and post treatment (2016-2021) vegetation cover for three southwest Idaho sites treated with pre-emergent herbicides after fire

Selective herbicide application is a common restoration strategy to control exotic invaders that interfere with native plant recovery after wildfire. Whether spraying with preemergent or bioherbicides releases native plants from competition with exotics ("spray-and-release" strategy) and can make communities resistant to re-invasion by exotic annual grasses (e.g., cheatgrass, medusahead)...

Data Compiled on historical water use, spatial land disturbance, aquifer disturbance and uranium produced by In Situ Recovery of Uranium from Sandstone Hosted Uranium Deposits in the South Texas Coastal Plain, USA Data Compiled on historical water use, spatial land disturbance, aquifer disturbance and uranium produced by In Situ Recovery of Uranium from Sandstone Hosted Uranium Deposits in the South Texas Coastal Plain, USA

This data release contains data on historical water use, spatial land disturbance, and spatial aquifer disturbances related to in situ recovery (ISR) uranium extraction per unit of uranium produced. These data were compiled from published and publicly available references including journal articles, government reports, industry reports and company reporting documents for regulatory...

Peak-flow frequency analysis for seven selected U.S. Geological Survey streamgages in the Floyd and Little Sioux River Basins, Iowa, based on data through water year 2019 Peak-flow frequency analysis for seven selected U.S. Geological Survey streamgages in the Floyd and Little Sioux River Basins, Iowa, based on data through water year 2019

This data release presents peak-flow frequency analyses by the U.S. Geological Survey based on methods described by Eash and others (2013) for streamgages 06600100, Floyd River at Alton, Iowa; 06600300, West Branch Floyd River near Struble, Iowa; 06600500, Floyd River near James, Iowa; 06605000, Ocheyedan River near Spencer, Iowa; 06605850, Little Sioux River at Linn Grove, Iowa...

Winter herbaceous utilization by elk and bison in the Great Sand Dunes National Park ecosystem of the San Luis Valley, Colorado, 2006 to 2008 Winter herbaceous utilization by elk and bison in the Great Sand Dunes National Park ecosystem of the San Luis Valley, Colorado, 2006 to 2008

These data represent 2 years of plant clipping data in areas with elk plus bison and areas of elk only in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, USA from 2006-2008. Clipping plots were measured (clipped) in meadow sites, herbaceous riparian sites, and willow communities. We clipped 1/4 m2 (meter-squared) rings inside and outside of 1-m2 grazing cages, as well as within large ungulate...

U.S. Geological Survey simulations of hydrodynamics and morphodynamics at Matanzas, FL during Hurricane Matthew (2016) and at Fire Island, NY during Hurricane Sandy (2012) U.S. Geological Survey simulations of hydrodynamics and morphodynamics at Matanzas, FL during Hurricane Matthew (2016) and at Fire Island, NY during Hurricane Sandy (2012)

The Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-Sediment Transport (COAWST Warner and others, 2019; Warner and others, 2010) model was used to simulate ocean circulation, waves, and sediment transport to study barrier island breaches that occurred during Hurricane Matthew (2016) near Matazas FL, and Hurricane Sandy (2012) at Fire Island, NY. Hurricane Sandy was a Saffir-Simpson Category 2 hurricane...

Growth, Drought Response, and Genomic Structure Data for Whitebark Pine in the Sierra Nevada of California (ver. 2.0, May 2023) Growth, Drought Response, and Genomic Structure Data for Whitebark Pine in the Sierra Nevada of California (ver. 2.0, May 2023)

These data represent stem growth from whitebark pine at 27 sites in the Sierra Nevada of California. Values for stem growth were derived from increment cores, processed following standard methods. Samples were also compared against a genomic data collected at the same trees. These data support the following publication: van Mantgem, P.J., Milano, E.R., Dudney, J., Nesmith, J.C.B...
