Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Bayesian Composition Sampling Bayesian Composition Sampling
R Code to Run Composition Sampling for Cook et al. 2023 The aim of this software is to perform composition sampling on simulated disease observation data. Composition sampling is a valuable approach for statistical inference in data limited systems. This software implements composition sampling on simulated chronic wasting disease surveillance data in white-tailed deer in Michigan, U.S...

This data release is the update of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - ScienceBase data release Bera (2023), with the processed data for the period October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022. This data release (DR) describes the watershed data management (WDM) database WBDR22.WDM. The precipitation data are collected from a tipping-bucket rain-gage network and the hydrologic data (stage...
Concentrations of 6PPD and 6PPD-Quinone in a United States reconnaissance of stormwater, surface water, and groundwater, 2018-24 Concentrations of 6PPD and 6PPD-Quinone in a United States reconnaissance of stormwater, surface water, and groundwater, 2018-24
From 2018 to 2024 surface waters (fresh and brackish), groundwater, and stormwater (runoff, re-use) samples were collected from sites with varying landuse (agricultural, forested, and urban) and streamflow conditions and analyzed at the Organic Geochemistry Research Laboratory in Lawrence, Kansas for the tire antioxidant 6PPD (6-p-phenylenediamine; N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N’-phenyl-p

Bird use of Winter-Flooded Rice Fields in the Sacramento Valley, California Bird use of Winter-Flooded Rice Fields in the Sacramento Valley, California
Bird and habitat surveys were conducted in winter-flooded rice fields in the Sacramento Valley, California, USA during the fall and winters of 2021-2022 (Oct 2021 through February 2022) and 2022-2023 (December 2022 through February 2023). Rice field sampling consisted of (1) a bird survey that was followed by (2) an overall habitat assessment and (3) a more detailed habitat transect...
USGS CoastCam at DUNEX: Timestack Imagery and Coordinate Data USGS CoastCam at DUNEX: Timestack Imagery and Coordinate Data
Two digital video cameras were temporarily installed at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge (PINWR) in North Carolina (NC), as part of the DUring Nearshore Event eXperiment (DUNEX). DUNEX was a collaborative community-led experiment that took place in the fall of 2021 along the Outer Banks of NC, with the goal of improving the understanding...
Evaluation of solid bitumen created from marine oil shale bituminite under hydrous and anhydrous pyrolysis conditions Evaluation of solid bitumen created from marine oil shale bituminite under hydrous and anhydrous pyrolysis conditions
This study tests the influence of environmental conditions on conversion of the maceral bituminite to a solid petroleum residuum (solid bitumen) during pyrolysis. The presence of water in sedimentary basins controls multiple processes during petroleum generation, migration, and storage. Four organic-rich (26–36 wt.% total organic carbon) oil shale samples were collected from thin-bedded...
Intertidal biofilm presence, quantity, nutritional quality, and composition maps derived from AVIRIS-Next Generation 3.7-meter airborne imagery, South San Francisco Bay, California Intertidal biofilm presence, quantity, nutritional quality, and composition maps derived from AVIRIS-Next Generation 3.7-meter airborne imagery, South San Francisco Bay, California
Microbial biofilm communities are composed of fungi, bacteria, and phytoplankton taxonomic groups (e.g., cyanobacteria, diatoms, and chlorophytes), which inhabit the surface of intertidal mudflats. Such biofilms have critical roles in shorebird diets, mudflat stabilization, primary productivity, and carbon storage. These raster datasets represent the presence, nutritional quality...
Modeled nearshore wave parameters along the Columbia River littoral cell, Washington and Oregon, 2010-2023 Modeled nearshore wave parameters along the Columbia River littoral cell, Washington and Oregon, 2010-2023
Model hindcasts were performed with a spectral wave model to quantify nearshore wave parameters along the Columbia River littoral cell, Oregon and Washington. The spectral wave model SWAN was used to simulate nearshore wave dynamics at 1-hr intervals along the coast between 2014 and 2023. A second hindcast simulated wave dynamics between 2010 and 2011. This data release describes the...
Saline Lake Ecosystems IWAA Lakes Saline Lake Ecosystems IWAA Lakes
The 2022 Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill - the appropriations bill that funds the USGS - established a regional Integrated Water Availability Assessment study program in the Great Basin of the American West. Twenty saline lakes across California, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah were identified by USGS partners as priority ecosystems. They...

Geochemical Analyses of Water, Mine tailings, Fluvial Suspended Sediments, Fluvial Bed Sediments, and Fluvial Flood Deposit Sediments from the Big River and Meramec River Drainage Basins, Missouri Geochemical Analyses of Water, Mine tailings, Fluvial Suspended Sediments, Fluvial Bed Sediments, and Fluvial Flood Deposit Sediments from the Big River and Meramec River Drainage Basins, Missouri
Geochemical data for aqueous, mine tailings, and sediment samples collected from the Big River and Meramec River drainage basins in southeastern Missouri are presented. The Big River drains historical lead, zinc, and barite mining districts, including the Old Lead Belt (OLB). Underground mining in the OLB resulted in large mine-waste chat piles and tailings impoundments that have...
