Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Laboratory fluorescence and total dissolved nitrogen measurements for surface water samples collected from the Rio Grande during a 24-hr time period near Albuquerque, New Mexico Laboratory fluorescence and total dissolved nitrogen measurements for surface water samples collected from the Rio Grande during a 24-hr time period near Albuquerque, New Mexico

Here, we present data supporting temporal variability and sources of PFAS in the Rio Grande through an arid urban area using high-frequency sampling and novel samplers. Data are compiled into two tables: 1) full fluorescence spectra in vectorized format, and 2) summary file of concentrations of total dissolved nitrogen and commonly extracted field-based sensor arrays. Data are reported...

Macroinvertebrate communities in Shenandoah Valley streams, 2021 Macroinvertebrate communities in Shenandoah Valley streams, 2021

From 20 May - 8 June 2021, a Virginia Tech team of 2-3 sampled the macroinvertebrate community in 30 Shenandoah Valley streams (Virginia and West Virginia, USA) as part of a larger stream-health study including other teams who surveyed geomorphology, water quality, flow, temperature, fish community, and fish health at the same 30 streams. The macroinvertebrate community team also...

Metrics of Resilience in Water Management Institutions in the Upper Colorado and Delaware River Basins, United States 2022 Metrics of Resilience in Water Management Institutions in the Upper Colorado and Delaware River Basins, United States 2022

The data in this data release are from an effort focused on understanding social vulnerability to water insecurity, resiliency demonstrated by institutions, and conflict or crisis around water resource management. This data release focuses on definitions and metrics of resilience in water management institutions. Water resource managers, at various scales, are tasked with making complex...

Microcosm experiment data of microcystin-degrading bacteria in Lake Erie source waters and drinking-water plants, 2015-18 Microcosm experiment data of microcystin-degrading bacteria in Lake Erie source waters and drinking-water plants, 2015-18

In 2015-2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Great Lakes Restoration Initiative investigated the biodegradation of microcystins in source waters and sand filters from drinking-water plants in the Western Lake Erie Basin. Four source waters and three sand filtrate samples were collected from the intakes and sand filters of...

The Stable Carbon Isotope Dataset of Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells Measured by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry The Stable Carbon Isotope Dataset of Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells Measured by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry

This data release contains data associated with the journal article, “Comparison of δ13C Analyses on Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry”. Data tables are comprised of stable carbon isotope (δ13C) measurements of planktic foraminifer (Orbulina universa) shells measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry...

Composite multibeam bathymetry surface and data sources of the central Cascadia Margin offshore Oregon Composite multibeam bathymetry surface and data sources of the central Cascadia Margin offshore Oregon

In 2018 and 2019 the NOAA ships Rainier and Fairweather collected multibeam bathymetry data in 4 areas along the central Cascadia Margin offshore Oregon as part of a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center and NOAA. These regions were combined with other publicly available multibeam bathymetry data. The surface was generated to...

Historical simulated snowpack and other hydrometeorology data at 30 m for the Crown of the Continent and vicinity, United States and Canada, water years 1981-2020 Historical simulated snowpack and other hydrometeorology data at 30 m for the Crown of the Continent and vicinity, United States and Canada, water years 1981-2020

This data release contains historical SnowModel (Liston and Elder, 2006) output for the Crown of the Continent and surrounding areas in Montana, USA; and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada from September 1, 1981 through August 31, 2020. Fifteen daily variables were simulated or derived for this release: (1) snow water equivalent (swed), (2) liquid precipitation (rpre), (3) solid...

Bathymetry, backscatter intensity, and benthic habitat offshore of Cape Mendocino, California Bathymetry, backscatter intensity, and benthic habitat offshore of Cape Mendocino, California

Survey data collected for this data release were used to create maps of surficial geology and benthic habitat as part of the USGS California Seafloor Mapping Program, a collaboration with California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Funding was provided by the California Ocean Protection Council. These data are intended...

Louisiana Outer Coast Restoration Project – 2022 habitat map, North Breton Island Louisiana Outer Coast Restoration Project – 2022 habitat map, North Breton Island

This data release includes 2022 data for the Louisiana Outer Coast Restoration Project for North Breton Island. Specifically, this data release includes a detailed habitat map, general habitat map, georeferenced imagery, and a bare-earth digital elevation model (DEM) developed from light detection and ranging data. These habitat maps are developed using the methods and classification...

Bathymetric and Supporting Data for Selected Water Supply Lakes in Missouri, 2022 (ver. 1.1, July 2024) Bathymetric and Supporting Data for Selected Water Supply Lakes in Missouri, 2022 (ver. 1.1, July 2024)

Water supply lakes are the primary source of water for many communities in northern and western Missouri. Therefore, accurate and up-to-date estimates of lake capacity are important for managing and predicting adequate water supply. Many of the water supply lakes in Missouri were previously surveyed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in the early 2000s (Richards, 2013) and in 2013...

Oceanographic conditions at Richardson reef reveal new suitable habitat for cold-water corals Oceanographic conditions at Richardson reef reveal new suitable habitat for cold-water corals

Cold-water corals create complex structures, but our incomplete knowledge of their niche space limits our ability to understand their distribution and therefore the impact of the ecosystem services they provide in the ocean. The Richardson reef complex consists of over 150 km of linear reef tracts within an area of 75 km2 between 700-900 m depth. This reef experiences rapid shifts in...
