NCASC Communications

Communicating CASC science to broad audiences is central to the National CASC mission. The NCASC Communications team is responsible for creating broad outreach products for National CASC science and for raising awareness of regional CASC research.

Engaging Diverse Audiences

Designing purposeful communication products for different users is vitally important to ensure that CASC science reaches communities and decision makers who need it. The National CASC maintains a dedicated Communications team to help create communication and outreach products to raise awareness of National and regional CASC research.

The NCASC uses a multifaceted approach to creating outreach materials, designing products to meet the specific needs of different audiences. Products can be as simple as informational web pages or as complex as science synthesis reviews published in academic journals. The team designs and distributes visual products such as infographics, data visualizations, and interactive geo-narratives, many of which can be seen on the @USGS_Climate social media accounts (Twitter and Instagram). They also amplify data sets and tools from across the CASC network through news announcements, webinars, workshops, and conferences, and work with the NCASC Data and Project Management teams to help make CASC scientific databases public-friendly.

Promoting National & Regional CASC Science

The NCASC communication team is tasked with both ensuring effective communication of NCASC science and with raising the visibility of regional CASC science and communication products. In this role, the NCASC works to maintain a consistent voice across the network and to support the communication efforts of individual CASCs. Each regional CASC has dedicated communication staff housed at its host institution that produces content aimed at communicating CASC-funded research relevant to its stakeholders. The NCASC provides resources to regional communications teams such as product templates and messaging guidance, and promotes their products on the USGS website and within the Climate Adaptation Insights newsletter.
