The National CASC is hosting a quarterly webinar series on the RAD (Resist-Accept-Direct) framework, a tool that helps resource managers make informed choices for responding to change. This series focuses on examples of RAD implementation and reflects on practical applications of RAD concepts.

This webinar will address two key questions about the RAD framework and Structured Decision Making (SDM):
First, what does SDM contribute to RAD? That is, how can structured approaches to decisions provide a process for both facilitating RAD and accessing decision support tools for challenging elements of decisions?
Second, what does RAD contribute to SDM? That is, how do the tenets of decision analysis need to be modified to accommodate non-stationary system dynamics and all the other challenges of climate change?

Michael C. Runge is a Research Ecologist with the USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center at the Patuxent Research Refuge. His work advances structured decision making and climate adaptation, focusing on ecological dynamics, uncertainty, and practical decision-support tools that guide natural resource management across diverse environmental challenges. He loves skiing when not supporting complex decisions at the DOI.
