Earthquakes

The USGS and its partners deliver a number of resources and tools, including videos, maps, and animations that have been created to assist in earthquake early warning and to visually convey earthquake scenaris and impacts. These tools enable emergency responders, government officials, scientists, and residents to identify the most likely damages and problems, and thus make the best possible decisions.

HayWired Scenario

The HayWired scenario depicts a scientifically realistic earthquake sequence, and its cascading impacts, that all starts with a magnitude 7 earthquake on the Hayward Fault. The scenario emphasizes connectedness: multi-hazards of an earthquake, interactions between critical infrastructure systems, and compounded effects in communities and economies.
